The Maritime Volunteer Service was formed in 1994. We have over 400 members in more than 30 Units around the coasts and estuaries of the United Kingdom. Each unit meets weekly for training which is put into practice afloat using a range of craft including launches, dories and RIBs.
Our unit was the founding unit of the MVS and the read more please see our Unit Website at www.mvs-portsmouth.org
In addition to our operational duties we are the only uniformed national charity that performs dignified committals and scattering of ashes to the sea.
We provide this service in a respectful manner for the relatives of former service personnel and enthusiasts of the sea.
Committing the ashes of a loved one to the sea is a fitting tribute to those who have sadly passed away; especially for those who spent some of their time enjoying ‘life on the water’.
